4 Defect classification principles and codes
Defects are divided into major categories according to their nature, and into sub-categories according to their location and status. Defects are represented by a set of numbers. In front of each set of numbers, according to the provisions of GB5185, 2\ represents metal resistance welding, and is separated from the other numbers by dots. When it is not mixed and slippery, the welding method code 2 does not need to be used.
Each set of numbers only represents a specific type of defect, for example: 1200 represents nugget edge cracks; 1400 represents heat-affected zone cracks. If the defects include several types, each group of numbers is represented by a slash separated by a combination, for example: 1200/1400 represents cracks from the edge of the nugget to the heat-affected zone.
