Determination of tamped volume and apparent density of pigmentsUDC 667.622:531
.73 + 531.75
GB 5211-4-85
This standard specifies the determination of tamped volume and apparent density of pigment samples. The tamped volume is the number of milliliters per 100 grams of pigment sample after tamping; the apparent density is the number of grams per milliliter of pigment sample after tamping. This standard is equivalent to ISO787/11-1981 "General test methods for pigments and extenders - Part 10: Determination of tamped volume and apparent density". The aperture of the sieve in this standard is 0.4mm. Note: When this general method is applicable to a specified pigment or extender, a special method for determining the filling volume and apparent density should be specified only when this general method is not applicable to a specific product, as long as the product standard of the pigment or extender refers to this method and indicates the changes required due to the characteristics of the product.
1 Apparatus
1.1 Sieve f: 200 mm diameter, 0.4 mm aperture. 1.2 Filling volume determination device See the figure below.

GB 5211.4—85
Filling volumetric instrument
1—Measuring cylinder with scale; 2—Rubber pad, 3—Cylinder stand, 4—Wheel, 5—Anvil: 6-sleeve measuring cylinder: Capacity is 250ml, equipped with a suitable stopper, and the scale interval is 2ml. 1.2.1
Cylinder stand (with shaft): The total weight of the measuring cylinder, cylinder and cylinder stand should be 670±45g. Cam: The measuring cylinder stand can be raised once for every 120° rotation, and its vibration frequency is 250±15 times/min. Anvil: The installation position should make the raised shaft end fall on the anvil at a height of 3±0.1mm from the anvil. Electric counter: count the vibration times of the measuring cylinder stand. Bushing: made of suitable material to minimize the friction coefficient between bushing and shaft. 1.2.6
Note: There should not be too much free play between the parts of the instrument. The friction between bushing and shaft should be as small as possible without lubricant. 1.3 Oven: can be maintained at 105±2℃.
Day: accurate to 0.5g or higher accuracy. 1.4
Desiccant: contain effective desiccant.
2 Test procedure
Carry out half-line determination of two samples.
2.1 Take enough sample (about 500ml) for two determinations, dry it in an oven (1.3) at 105±2℃ for 2h, and then cool it in a desiccant (1.5) at 1186. Www.bzxZ.net
GB 5211.4--85
Sieve the dried sample (1.1) to completely disperse the aggregates, then add it to a graduated cylinder (1.2.1) (pre-weighed to the accuracy of 0.5g), tilt the cylinder and rotate it relative to the axis while adding the sample to avoid the formation of gaps. Add 200±10ml of sample mass, weigh the cylinder plus the sample to the accuracy of 0.5g, tap the cylinder to make the surface of the sample nearly horizontal, and then put it on.
Put the cylinder on the support of the filling volume measuring device (1.2), vibrate the cylinder about 1250 times, and then read the volume of the sample, with an accuracy of 1ml! (If the sample surface is not completely horizontal after vibration, the volume can still be estimated to the accuracy of 1ml). Continue to vibrate, about 1250 times each time, and read the volume of the sample after each vibration, until the volume difference after two consecutive vibrations is less than 2m! Until then, record the final volume of the sample after filling. If the difference between the two samples is greater than 10ml/100g, repeat the entire operation (Chapter 2). 3. Expression of results
Filling volume is calculated according to formula (1):
Apparent density is calculated according to formula (2):
Wu Zhong: m——the simplest mass, g,
m,—the simplest mass bond of the sample, g:
-the volume of the sample after filling, ml;
,——-the filling volume of the sample, ml/100g: L
-the apparent density of the sample, g/ml.
Take the average of the measured values of the two samples and record the results accurately to 1ml/100g and 0.01g/ml respectively.
