National Standard of the People's Republic of China
Vocabulary of Paints and Varnishes
Part 1 General Terms
UDC 667.6:601.4
GB 6206.1--85
This standard specifies the general terms and definitions (or explanations) of paints, varnishes and related products and raw materials. This standard is suitable for the production, application, scientific research, teaching, publication and compilation of standards for coatings and pigments, and can also be used for technical and business exchanges at home and abroad. This standard is formulated in reference to the international standard IS04618/1-1978 "Paints and Varnishes-Vocabulary-Part: General Terms" and relevant standards of other countries.
Each entry in this standard includes a noun term, the corresponding English name and the definition (or explanation) of the term. Synonymous terms are listed after the terms. The first word is the preferred term, and the words that follow are the permitted terms. If there are no longer used terms, they are listed after the definition (or description).
Priority and permitted terms are in bold, and no longer used terms are in white. Bold words in parentheses indicate that they can be omitted, and bold words in square brackets indicate that they can replace the previous word or word. 1 Basic terms
1.1 Coating
coating
A general term for a class of liquid or solid materials that can be applied to the surface of an object to form a solid film with protective, decorative or special properties (such as insulation, corrosion resistance, marking, etc.). In the early days, most of them used vegetable oil as the main raw material, so they were called "paints". Now synthetic resins have mostly or completely replaced vegetable oils, so they are called "paints". In the past, the word "lacquer" could be used to represent "paint" in the names of specific coating varieties, such as mixed paint, thick paint, etc. 1.2 Organic coating
organic coating
Coating whose main film-forming substance is composed of organic substances. 1.3 Inorganic coating
inorganic coating
Coating whose main film-forming substance is composed of inorganic substances. 1.4 Paint
A type of paint containing pigments, which, when applied to the substrate, can form an opaque paint film with protective, decorative or special properties. 1.5 Paste paint
Paste paint
Paste with a high pigment content and in a paste form. Before use, it needs to be diluted with an appropriate amount of clear oil. A term no longer used, lead oil.
1.6 Ready-mixed paint
Generally refers to paint that can be used without mixing. The mixed paint made with oil as the sole film-forming substance is called oily mixed paint; the mixed paint made with oil as the main substance and a small amount of rosin resin, phenolic resin, etc. is called magnetic mixed paint. The term no longer used: mixed paint.
1.7 Enamel
After application, the paint film formed is hard, flat and smooth, and its appearance is similar to that of colored paint of enamel. The gloss of the paint film can be changed between having or not having gloss.
1.8 Putty
putty; filler
A thick paste-like paint used to eliminate minor surface defects before painting. 1.9 Primer: A coating applied directly to the substrate during multi-layer coating. 1.10: Surfacer: A paint applied between the primer and the topcoat during multi-layer coating to smooth out uneven surfaces. Finish, top coat: A paint or varnish applied to the top layer during multi-layer coating. Varnish: A type of coating that does not contain coloring matter. When applied to a substrate, it forms a transparent film with protective, decorative or special properties. No longer used term: varnish. Transparent (color) varnish: A transparent coating that contains coloring matter. It is prepared by adding alcohol-soluble or oil-soluble dyes or a small amount of organic coloring pigments to varnish.
Solvent based coating
Solvent based coating
Coating that uses organic matter as solvent completely. Www.bzxZ.net
Water (based ) paint
Water hased coatingCoating that uses water as medium completely or mainly. 1. 16
Powder coating
Powder coating
Coating in powder form without solvent.
1.17.Two-component coating, two-pack coating
Two-component coatingt Two-pack coatingCoating that has two components packaged separately and must be mixed in a specified proportion before use. 1.18Paint
Medium; vehicle
Generally refers to the liquid phase of the paint.
Paint base; base
binder
Non-volatile components in paint. It can form a film and bind the pigment. YKAONKAca-
1.20 Film former, film forming malerialA substance that can form a continuous film with a certain strength in the paint base. 1.21 Resin
A class of solid, semi-solid or pseudo-solid polymers with indefinite molecular weight. Sometimes it can also be a liquid polymer. Usually there is a softening or melting temperature range. When softened, it tends to flow under stress. 1.22 Natural resin
natural resin
Resin derived from plants, animals or minerals. 1.23 Synthetic resin
synthetic resin
Resin made from simple compounds (which do not have the characteristics of resins themselves) through chemical reactions (such as polymerization or condensation). 1.24 Modified resin
modified resin
Resin whose chemical structure of natural resin or synthetic resin is partially changed through chemical reaction. 1.25 Plasticizer; Toughener
plasticizer
Substance that can enhance the flexibility of paint film.
1.26 Solvent; True solvent
oivent
A single-component or multi-component liquid that can volatilize under normal drying conditions and can completely dissolve the paint base. 1.27 Cosolvent
cosolvent
A substrate that can volatilize under normal drying conditions. It itself does not have the ability to dissolve film-forming substances, but if it is mixed with a solvent of a certain film-forming substance in an appropriate proportion, it can enhance the solvent's solubility. 1.28 Diluent
diluent
A single-component or multi-component volatile liquid. Although it cannot dissolve the film-forming substances in the paint, it can be used together with the solvent of the paint without causing harmful effects. 1.29 Thinner
thinner
A volatile liquid that can be made into multiple components of a single component. Adding it to the paint can reduce its viscosity. 1.30 Pigment
pigmenl
Pigment is a powdery, medium-insoluble colored substance used in paint for its optical, protective, decorative and other properties. 1.ar
Inorganic pigment
inorganic pigment
A type of pigment whose chemical composition is inorganic. Organic pigment
organic pigment
A type of pigment whose chemical composition is organic.
