Part 5: Oil absorption
Oil absorption: The amount of refined linseed oil absorbed by a pigment sample under specified conditions. It can be expressed as volume/mass or mass/mass. 4 Reagents
4.1 Refined linseed oil, acid value of 5.0~7.0mgKOH/g. 5 Instruments
5.1 Flat plate: made of frosted glass or marble, size not less than 300mm×400mm. 5.2 Spatula: made of steel, conical blade, about 140~150mm long, 20~25mm at the widest point, and not less than 12.5mm at the narrowest point. Burette: capacity 10mL, graduation value 0.05mL. 5.3
6 Sampling
Select representative samples of the test pigments in accordance with the provisions of GB9285. Test steps
Carry out parallel determination of two samples
7.1 According to the general range of oil absorption of different pigments, it is recommended to weigh an appropriate amount of sample according to the provisions of the following table. Oil absorption, mL/100g
>10 ~ 30
Approved by the Ministry of Chemical Industry of the People's Republic of China on August 1, 1988Sample mass, g
Implemented on April 1, 1989
Oil absorption, mL/100g
>30 ~ 50
>50~80
GB 5211.15—88
Sample mass, g
Place the sample (7.1) on a flat plate (5.1) and add refined linseed oil (4.1) dropwise with a burette (5.3). The amount of oil added each time should not exceed 10 drops. After adding, press and grind with a spatula (5.2) to make the oil penetrate into the sample. Continue adding at this speed until the oil and sample form a mass. From this point on, each drop needs to be fully ground with a spatula. When a paste of uniform consistency is formed, which does not crack or break and can adhere to the plate, it is the end point.
Record the amount of oil consumed. All operations should be completed within 20 to 25 minutes. 8. Expression of results
The oil absorption is expressed as the volume or mass of the sleeve required for every 100g of product, calculated using formula (1) or formula (2) respectively: 100V
Volume of oil required, mL
Formula h; V
m——Mass of the sample, g;
93——Density of refined linseed oil multiplied by 100. m
Report the results accurately to the volume or mass of oil required for every 100g of pigment. Test report
The test report shall at least include the following contents: a.
Type and name of the test sample;
Express the test results according to the requirements of Chapter 8,
Differences from the operation specified in this test,
Test date and test personnel.
Additional remarks:
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Standardization of Paints and Pigments. This standard was drafted by Shanghai Jinghua Chemical Plant. The main drafter of this standard was Feng Qizhu.
