1 Subject content and scope of application
GB16196—1996
This standard specifies the maximum permissible concentration of condensed silica dust in the air of workplace and its monitoring and inspection methods. This standard applies to the process that can produce quartz vapor condensate smoke in industrial production and the process of producing far-ultraviolet quartz glass, optical fiber and other materials by high-temperature hydrolysis of silicon tetrachloride. 2 Reference standards

The maximum permissible concentration of condensed silica dust in the air of workplace is 3mg/m3. 4 Monitoring and inspection methods
The determination of condensed silica dust concentration and free silica content in the air of workplace shall be carried out in accordance with GB5748. 5 Supervision and implementation
Health and epidemic prevention agencies at all levels are responsible for supervising the implementation of this standard. Additional Notes:
This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. This standard was drafted by the Shanghai Institute of Labor Hygiene and Occupational Disease Prevention and Control. The main drafters of this standard were Lu Zhiying and Hu Tianxi. This standard was interpreted by the Institute of Labor Hygiene and Occupational Diseases of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, the technical unit entrusted by the Ministry of Health. Approved by the State Administration of Technical Supervision on April 3, 19962.
