Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My topic today is “Environment is my top concern”. When talking about Environment, what’s the first thing that has come to your mind? Is it the Copenhagen climate change conference, or the Gulf Oil Spill, or the leak of toxic sludge in Hungary? Different people may have different answers.

Let’s check out how serious the environmental situation is in the world. Recent years have seen an increasing number of reports on the extinction of species, soil erosion as well as air pollution. The history of industrialization and urbanization has been a history of declining environmental quality. We may be satisfied with our so called modern life, but please do not turn a blind eye to what’s happened around us. Water is polluted. Animals are killed. Resources are devoured. And farmlands turn into desserts.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we now live in. It’s not a wonderland. It’s not a safe haven. It’s a planet damaged by human beings and the situation is getting even worse. We need to change. We need to do something about it. We need to shoulder our responsibility. Otherwise, the end of world may come just as the film 2012 showed us. Now is the moment; Now is the time; Now is the only chance we can have to save our world.

Then you may ask “what can we do”? I have listed three answers to this question for all of you. Firstly, the governments should take a leading role in publicizing knowledge and raising people’s awareness. They are supposed to use economic and administrative leverage to monitor and regulate the environmental protection. Secondly, companies should raise their ability of independent innovation. They should encourage scientific and technological advances, and use new methods to reduce wastes and pollution. And thirdly, we people, as individuals, must take some actions. We should keep firmly in mind that every enormous change starts from the very first step.

Ladies and gentlemen, the earth is in our hands. Save it, or destroy it, it’s our choice. Our efforts will be powerful enough to save the world. If everyone, including you and me, is engaged in this world-saving project, environment will never ever be my top concern.

Free museum will greatly motivate all kinds of people to approach. What's more, in this fast developing age, museums have many new and advanced invents inside. It will be a wonderful place for people who want to learn more. Parents can often take their children to museums to learn about history and some technical knowledge. In a word, I think government should try to make more museums free for citizens.

E or disagree: Zoos should be banned.

Nowadays, lots of people start to realize that zoos are not a good place for animals. People need zoos because it is an easy way to close the animals and also because it's convenient for people to observe them. However, zoos are in fact a cruel place for animals. Animals should live in their natural habitat. An animal's natural instinct is to run and to hunt. But that's not for animals kept in zoos. Everyday, people feed them. They've never been taught how to hunt for food and will gradually lose their natures. That will be quite cruel for a animal, especially for wild animals such as tigers and lions. You can often find in zoos that a tiger kept in cage has a loose expression in its set animals in zoos and therefore feel that they won't meet danger and may be able to protect them from dying out. This may be just a excuse we find for ourselves to make animals in cages just as entertainment. We always say animals are our friends, then why we put our friends in cages?

The story with English and me

Hello everyone，it is glad to meet you，my name is Nong Yanxing，you can also call me Virita, It’s my English name. I am a Howell School’s girl and I am an outgoing girl too, so I like playing jokes with others.

I am fourteen years old and I have learnt English for six years now I’ve loved English since the first time, I’ve heard it from a tape. The voice from the tape was very wonderful and the language was so nice time I thought，how wonderful the language is! And if I can speak English as well as the speaker in the tape，that will be amazing! So I asked my mum：“Can I learn English? I really love it!” “Of course you can，but are you sure about it? Can you insist on it?” She was a bit excited. “Of course I can，mum. I love it very much，I want to learn it. ”I said confidently，“Oh，my good kid，you are very good，I am so excited about you are interested in English. ”She gave me a sweet hug. We laughed together. Then，I’ve started my English learning way.

At the beginning，I loved English because it sounds comfortable ,but I can’t believe that how difficult to learn English grammar. Then I felt tired, and I really want to give it up. Buton that main time，my English teacher found me was a bit strange，“What wrong with you，Virita?You look a bit strange.” “Nothing, I just think English grammar is so difficult. It is boring，I don’t want to learn it anymore!” “Why？You can’t give it up，Virita. I can help you just trust me.”“Really?” “Of course!” Then she helped me with my English grammar after class everyday. She told me how to find a good way for my own to learn English grammar. How to find a good way to remember the English new words. She told me try to love English! Interests is the best teacher! So my English marks improve very fast. And in the finally exam，I got the best marks at school. I was so happy my English teacher warned me again “Don’t be proud of it. Hasty climbers have the sudden falls. You should come on!”

I also like watching Holly Wood movies, for example, The Green Man in the Avengers is very strong and V in V of vendetta is very cool. Most of actors and actresses speak English in the film, and I really want to understand the whole meaning about a film without any caption one day. Itis difficult for me to make it come true. I should work harder.

English is a very beautiful language itis my friend，a real friend. Although I can’t feel it with my hands, but I can feel it with my heart. English brought me a lot and I have a big dream about English. To make it come true ,I should work harder and learn more Western culture. We’ll love each other more and more.

Sometimes,I think my father was a philosopher,sometimes think he is a activists,always set an example for his child ,do what a father should is always working hard to feed large family, he is always considerate to forgive his naughty children,moreover he filial piety to the old person,to repay parents brought up. In a word, he always so good.

Of course hes not a iron man,he also has a fragile, but he never lose self,and s more, when I meet with some troubles and want to give up, he always encourage me.I still remember what he told me "perseverance overcomes almost you fall, perseverance tells you get you are defeated,perseverance tells you to try again you feel like quitting, perseverance doesnt let you".

Nowadays, I am an adults,and as a college student,I always unavoidably depending on my father, I often call to my father to ask some questions, meanwhile I also want to know how are they recently I start my college life followed with my fathers use of my dear father,I know how important to be myself.I have to be true to myself, because the only important thing in life is what you do with the time on spend here in Ill always be optimistic and happy in the following ,as my father told me,just be perseverance to do everything. The first time I saw a square watermelon, my hair stood on end. Years ago a Japanese came up with the idea of square watermelons because he thought it would save more space. Intelligent and effective as it is, have you ever thought about how tragic it is for the watermelon?

I cant imagine that poor fruits childhood, being imprisoned and limited in a dark cubic cell, not even able to stretch its arms and legs. Because only in this way, can it truly become a square watermelon.

Unfortunately, isnt this the way we grew up? Under the pressure of being forced to strive for one goal after another, we almost became identical. However, at the same time, there is still a bunch of people, careless of the dark cell, following their passion, their dreams.

Maybe there is not a "right" or "wrong" between being forced by pressure or following your dream. I mean, pressure can make things going in an effective, though boring, way. By contrast, passion and dreams enrich your life, though sometimes its risky to stick to them. Nevertheless, Ladies and gentlemen, following your dream with passion is what everyone should choose to do.

Let me explain it this way.

My grandmother was very shocked when she found out that I know what my cousin sister is doing simply by clicking on her blog. Hesitating for a little while, though, She asked for my help and decided to start her "social network life" at the advanced age of 85.

Think about this, A woman didnt give up her passion, and tried not to fall behind, even almost in the evening of her life. What supported her is her passion and her dream. The sad truth is that not everyone is able to enjoy this part of life. When they become old, or, as some would say, when they become mature, their mind is imprisoned into a box, partly by society, partly by themselves. They have tons of things they must do also tons of things they must not do. In essence, thousands of millions of people are becoming like square melons with an imprisoned mind.

This reminds me of a book I once read called "Brave New World". In the story, the world in 2532 is highly efficient, stable and prosperous. People are classified before they are born, when they are from the same family they will have the same face, the same abilities and same future. That’s a world in which there’s no passion or dream. Only pressure and and striving.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we could end up in, if we allow ourselves to be blocked in, like the square melons.
