The provisions of this standard are consistent with the relevant provisions of ASTMB33 (1981), ASTMB298 (1980) and ASTMB355 (1980).
1 Scope of application
This test method is applicable to checking the continuity of metal coatings (such as tin, silver, nickel, etc.) of wire and cable conductors. 2 Test equipment
2.1 Glass measuring cylinder 250ml.
2.2 Reagents
2.2.1 Hydrochloric acid chemically pure.
2.2.2 Chemically pure sodium sulfide
2.2.3 Sulfur, benzene or ether.
3 Sample preparation
3.1 Sampling The sample should consist of 8 product packaging unit rings or discs. Cut a sample of about 150mm in length from each packaging unit.
3.2 Pretreatment
3.2.1 Soak the sample in appropriate organic solvents such as benzene, ether or trichloroethylene for at least 3 minutes. After taking it out, dry it with a clean soft cloth.
3.2.2 Place the pretreated sample in a clean container and wait for the test. When taking and placing the sample, do not touch the part of the sample immersed in the test solution with your hands, and take care to prevent damage to the surface of the sample. 4 Test steps
4.1 Preparation of hydrochloric acid solution
4.1.1 Chemically pure (CP) hydrochloric acid is diluted with distilled water. The specific gravity of the test hydrochloric acid solution obtained at 16°C is 1.08. 4.1.2 Each portion of hydrochloric acid solution (180ml) used for tinned copper wire test should be treated as invalid after being immersed in the number of specimens specified in the table for 2 cycles.
