This standard specifies the general methods for inspecting weld joint defects, determining defect locations, sizes, equivalents, and defect evaluation, as well as the classification methods for test results. This standard applies to ultrasonic flaw detection and classification of test results for butt girth welds of steel pressure pipes with a wall thickness of 15 to 120 mm and a nominal diameter of ≥ 159 mm during the manufacture, installation, and maintenance of equipment. This standard does not apply to ultrasonic flaw detection of butt welds of cast steel and austenitic stainless steel.
