1 Scope of application National Standard of the People's Republic of China Position and size of safe picture areas for motion-picture films for television UDC778.534 GB 53 01-85 This standard specifies the safe picture areas for playing 35mm and 16mm films on television, so that ideal images and complete screens can be obtained on home televisions. 2 Terms 2.1 Playback picture area: refers to the range of the images played by the TV station. 2.2 Safe picture area: refers to the size of the screen in the film that can be completely reproduced on the screen of a home television. 2.3 Movies to be played:
refers to non-anamorphic movies with a screen width/width ratio of 1t1.35 to 111.38. 3 Dimensions
3.1 Playback screen range
The screen size of the playback screen for 35mm and 16mm movies is shown in Figures 1, 2 and the following table. 3.2 Effective screen range
The effective screen range for 35mm and 16mm movies is shown in Figures 1, 2 and the following table. Note: The size (width and radius) of the effective screen range is calculated by multiplying 0.675, 0.900 and 0.0 by the width of the playback screen range, respectively.
3.3 Safe subtitle range
The screen size of the playback screen for 35mm and 16mm movies is shown in Figures 1, 2 and the following table. Note: The size of the security subtitle area (height, width and fillet radius) is calculated by multiplying 0.600, 1.0 and 0.160 by the width of the playback screen range.

The horizontal and vertical center lines of the playback screen range and the safety subtitle range on 35mm and 16mm films are consistent with the corresponding center lines of the 35mm and 16mm camera screens specified in GB4635-84 "Position and size of the image formed by the film window of a 35mm movie camera on the film" and GB4642-84 "Position and size of the image formed by the film window of a 16mm movie camera on the film".
