This standard is formulated for the first time based on experimental research, labor hygiene and epidemiological survey data, and with reference to relevant foreign occupational exposure limits. It is a hygienic standard used for workplace environmental monitoring and health supervision. This standard will be implemented from May 1, 2002. This standard is proposed by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. The drafting units of this standard are: School of Public Health of Harbin Medical University, Health and Epidemic Prevention Station of Weifang City, Shandong Province, and Occupational Disease Prevention and Control Institute of Renqing City. The main drafters of this standard are: Cang Enzhi, Zhang Zhongyi, Huang Huiping, and Zhang Baolin. This standard is entrusted to the Institute of Labor Hygiene and Occupational Diseases of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine for interpretation. 573

This standard specifies the maximum permissible concentration and time-weighted average permissible rise of barite dust containing less than 10% free silicon dioxide in the air of the workplace.

The maximum allowable concentration of barite dust containing less than 10% free silicon dioxide in the workshop air is 10mg/m3, and the time-weighted average allowable concentration is 5mg/m3
4 Supervision and inspection methods
The determination of barite dust concentration and free silicon dioxide content in workshop air shall be carried out according to the determination method of substances difficult to be dissolved by pyrophosphate in GB/T5748.
